Winner Take All

The men who wrote the Constitution wanted to protect the God-given rights of the people from the abuse of power by the government. They had learned from experience that in order prevent tyranny their government would need to governed by the rule of law rather than the will of the majority.

They created a republic instead of a democracy, because they feared that allowing the majority to make important  political decisions the rights of the people would be in seriously jeopardized.. The founders highest priority was to prevent the tyranny of a majority.

Today forty-eight of the fifty states promotes a tyranny of the majority by allocating all of their states electoral votes to the candidate winning the plurality of votes in the Presidential Elections. This “Winner Take All” method of allocating electoral votes is precisely what our founders were trying to avoid.
